Who we are
The club prides itself on its friendly atmosphere. Our membership extends to runners from Basildon, Benfleet, Billericay, Canvey Island, Grays, Laindon, Hadleigh, Hockley, Leigh-on-Sea, Pitsea, Rayleigh, Runwell, Southend, South Woodham Ferrers, Wickford and overseas
We organise and run community running events, including our famous Crown to Crown races held during the Spring, Summer and Winter months at Westley Heights. Local clubs and enthusiastic runners enjoy our friendly events which include supporting local charitable causes.
Our club participates in two local cross-country leagues, the Essex League (Saturday afternoons) and the South Essex League (Sunday mornings). We also have the honour of organising a challenging Cross Country event for the Sunday league.
What we do
We have a strong commitment to volunteering which is an important and enjoyable part of club life. In addition to volunteering at our club organised events, we have for many years provided support to various London Marathon Events, including the London Marathon, Westminster Mile and Vitality 10k. This is a great way of giving back to the community and an enjoyable social day out with like-minded people.
On a week to week basis we organise club runs for all standards and abilities. These include track nights, social runs and long runs at the weekend. On Saturdays there is an excellent opportunity to meet fellow club members at our local parkruns.
We encourage a social side within our club with various functions organised throughout the year.
Originally called Pitsea Joggers, Pitsea Running Club was started in early 1984 by half a dozen local "joggers" interested in running and keeping fit. By September that year our membership had increased and our running improved and we changed our name to Pitsea Road Runners.
Over the next four years our membership grew further and we expanded into other forms of running such as cross country and trail running, and on the 18th November 1988 we changed our name to Pitsea Running Club.
During this period the club also became an England Athletics affiliated club, allowing us to run and race with all the benefits that this provides.
